How to understand the costs of infertility treatment at ReproGenesis

Understanding infertility treatment costs

The question of cost is one that almost every couple considering infertility treatment asks. What does health insurance cover? To what extent and under what conditions? And what additional costs should you plan for?

We have prepared an overview to help you better understand the costs of infertility treatment and how the whole system works – in other words, what you pay for and why.

How much does IVF cost, and why doesn't infertility treatment have a single price?

Every couple enters treatment in a different situation, with a different diagnosis, history, and needs. That is why the scope of treatment – and with it the price – can vary.

The difference may lie, for example, in:

What health insurance covers

Provided the statutory conditions are met, health insurance covers up to 4 IVF cycles until the woman's 40th birthday.

A covered IVF cycle usually includes:

What may be partially covered

Some items, especially medication, are not covered in full by health insurance. The co-payment varies depending on the type of treatment, the type of medication, or its dosage. Even in these cases, we try to make sure the couple has a clear idea of the possible costs in advance.

If a clinical geneticist recommends genetic testing of embryos, patients usually only pay for the embryo biopsy. The genetic testing itself may be covered by health insurance, although the number of embryos tested is limited.

What patients pay for themselves

This category includes procedures that are not covered by health insurance. Some of them are now a standard part of modern IVF treatment, while others are recommended by the doctor based on the couple's specific situation.

Commonly used procedures include, for example, ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) or extended embryo culture. ICSI is today one of the most frequently used fertilisation methods in IVF. Extended culture allows embryo development to be monitored up to the blastocyst stage, which helps doctors select the embryo with the highest developmental potential.

Other procedures and examinations may be recommended individually depending on health status, age, or the course of treatment so far.

Methods not covered by health insurance:

Although these procedures are not covered by health insurance, in many cases they can significantly increase the chance of a successful pregnancy.

How we talk about costs during the consultation

We understand that the question of finances can be a sensitive and stressful part of infertility treatment.

During your initial consultation, the doctor will discuss the recommended treatment approach with you and explain which methods are suitable for your situation. The IVF coordinator will then go through the prices of the individual services with you.

Our goal is for you to have enough information to make decisions with clarity and peace of mind. Questions about costs are a natural part of the consultation – please don't hesitate to ask us anything.
