The journey towards a longed-for child is one of the most sensitive periods in the life of a woman and a couple. Alongside hope and expectation, it often also brings uncertainty, disappointment and inner exhaustion. It is an experience that is not easy to talk about — and that makes it all the more important not to go through it alone.
Repeated unsuccessful attempts to conceive can have a profound impact on mental wellbeing. Scientific literature describes the so-called infertility-related psychological distress syndrome. Up to 20% of women experience anxiety, depressive feelings, a sense of failure or inferiority, hopelessness or social isolation. This difficult situation can also often affect the relationship between partners.
Infertility treatment, including IVF, is also associated with a high level of stress, which may affect not only overall well-being but also the course of the treatment itself. Caring for mental health is therefore a natural and important part of modern reproductive medicine.
